BI 4.0 – Connecting to SAP BW Options

    Hi,

We are potentially mgrating to BI 4.0 from XI 3.1 and we are using SAP BW as our source.

    My understanding is

    – that the recommeded option to connect is BICs to BEx Query

    – It is possible to use our old unv universe (XI 3.1) for the connection but it is not recommended

    – It is possible to create a Jco relational unx universe but this is not recommended unless required e.g. if you need to use IDT functionality that is not possible in BEx. OR you are connecting to Explorer as you can only use unx universe

    – It is not possible to create a unx universe against a BEx query in BI 4.0

The above is based on research but i just want to check if this is correct at this point in time.

    Thanks,

      Leo,

You are correct as of the current releases today.

      To add to this:

      – It is possible to create a Jco relational unx universe but this is not recommended unless required e.g. if you need to use IDT functionality that is not possible in BEx. OR you are connecting to Explorer as you can only use unx universe

You may also consider creating a BI4 universe for multi-source data – to combine BW and non-BW data into a universe.

      Regards,

      Tammy
